syrup

Onion cough syrup

The old farm cough pot: sliced onion, sugar or honey, overnight. You already have the onion.

8–12 hours · A few spoonfuls of syrup

  1. Slice a yellow onion into a bowl. Cover the layers with sugar, or honey if they are over one.
  2. Lid. Sit at room temperature overnight. In the morning you have a thin syrup.
  3. Spoon off the liquid. Compost the onion or cook it.
Dose
1 tsp as needed for a night cough. Child over 1, honey version only, 1/2 tsp.
Store
A day or two, cold if you can. Make it when you need it.

This is a cough soother, not an antibiotic. Honey rule still applies.
